The Power Center Academy (PCA), a local Memphis City Charter School, is proud to present the first annual Let’s Move Memphis 5K run/walk fundraiser.

Let’s Move Memphis is a new movement to inspire healthy living and active lifestyles in the Memphis city area.  Despite the statistics of growing obesity among our youth and overall declining health among many citizens in the Memphis area, we believe we can turn this trend around by taking action.

Through its humanitarian focus, the Power Center Academy seeks to develop and implement an annual run/walk event that engages and inspires the Memphis community to get involved in a movement to improve physical and mental health through the promotion of healthy eating and active lifestyles longer-term.

Proceeds from the event will be used to fund a dedicated PCA Healthy Living Education & Engagement Program (Healthy LEEP) that could also be leveraged across other schools systems throughout the Memphis city area. Healthy LEEP will include its own content guidelines for healthy eating and active lifestyles for incorporation into the overall curriculum at PCA. Engagement in healthy eating will be supported by a PCA specialized dietary menu based on ingredients consistent with Healthy LEEP programming. This lunch program will replace current menu contents, which may be contrary to the content guidelines for healthy eating.

On Saturday, October 1, 2011, PCA will start this movement at 8am from the Hickory Ridge Mall, 6075 Winchester Road, Memphis, TN 38115
